Village main road to shut for 2 days for roadworks with 8-mile diversion to be in place

Two days of road works will close most of a small village south of Leicester.

The resurfacing work needs to be carried out later this month in Newton Harcourt and almost the whole length of Glen Road – the main road through the village – will be affected, as well as nearby Fleckney Road.

The closure is expected to begin on Wednesday, January 27, and continue until the end of the following day.

Leicestershire County Council will signpost an eight-mile diversion route via Wigston, Kilby and Wistow.

The council said in a statement: “Leicestershire County Council Highways has agreed to a temporary traffic regulation order on Glen Road, Newton Harcourt and Fleckney Road, Wistow on January 27, 2021, for two days.

“The order will be implemented for public safety for Leicestershire County Council to facilitate carriageway patching works.

“During the closures, alternative routes available to all traffic will be signed on site.

“Leicestershire County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during these works.”
