Three days of snow and ice warnings in place for Chesterfield

More snow could be on the way to Chesterfield as a yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for the area.

Chesterfield could see colder days and nights from today until Friday, January 14, as temperatures are set to reach lows of minus one and hit nothing higher than six degrees celsius.

Heavy snow may affect parts of the warning area, with possible significant travel disruption, says the Met Office.

The Met Office also advises residents that they can expect:

  • Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, especially across higher routes, with potential for road closures.
  • Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
  • Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
  • Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be dangerous or even impassable, posing a greater risk of injuries and accidents.

Alongside the snow, ice and sleet, there could be cloud and fog on Friday, January 15.

At least the week will end slightly brighter with the sun making a slight appearance throughout the day, changing from partly cloudy to sunny by late morning.
