Teens in Vauxhall Astra horror smash in Derbyshire town

A car ended on its roof after it hit a tree while being chased by police in a Derbyshire town.

Police say the driver of a black Vauxhall Astra failed to stop in Ilkeston at about 11.50pm on Sunday night.

The car was seen again by suspicious officers in Nottingham Road heading onto Park Drive just after midnight and made off from police again.

However, the car then crashed into a tree and ended on its roof.

Two 19-year-old men were arrested at the scene for a variety of offences. They both sustained minor injuries.

A Derbyshire police statement said: “The (second) pursuit ended shortly after it started when the Vauxhall lost control leaving the road and colliding with a tree leaving it on its roof.

“The driver and passenger, both 19-year-old men from Ilkeston, were arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, theft of motor vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon.
