New Met Office weather warning issued for Derbyshire tonight

Forecasters have issued a fresh weather warning for Derbyshire tonight, which covers the whole county.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for snow and ice was in place from 8am this morning until around 4pm this afternoon.

It has now been replaced by a new ice warning covering Thursday night, which has already come into force and will remain in place until 10am tomorrow morning.

The yellow weather warning covers large swathes of the country, including all of the East Midlands.

Cold temperatures overnight are expected to cause icy stretches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths in parts of Derbyshire.

The wintry weather could increase the risk of slips and falls in these areas, with the Met Office warning of difficult travel conditions.

A substantial amount of snow fell in northern areas of the county earlier today, including in Buxton, Bakewell, and Chesterfield. Light snow fell in parts of Derby too.

A number of roads have closed and several schools closed early due to the amount of snowfall in some areas of the county.
