Live updates as heavy snow starts falling in Derbyshire

Heavy snowfall has hit parts of Derbyshire this morning and could continue throughout the day.

It appears a lot of snow has fallen at the Peak District National Park and the northern areas of the county, also including Chesterfield.

The Peak District National Trust says some areas of the National Park are closed due to “heavy snow” in some places.

It tweeted: “For local communities wanting to access Longshaw for their daily form of exercise, please be aware that Longshaw is closed due to heavy snow – this includes all car parks, Croft Cabin & toilet. Take care out there.”

The Met Office has forecast heavy snow throughout the day in the Buxton and north Derbyshire area with a yellow warning for snow and ice active until 9pm tonight.

Our reporter Zena Hawley said the snow was starting to take full effect in Bakewell.

She said: “It is snowing harder in Bakewell now and starting to settle.”
