Latest list of school closures in Derbyshire as heavy snow rolls in

Schools in Derbyshire have closed as heavy snow rolls into the county.

Safety concerns have prompted a number of schools in the north of the county to ask parents to pick up their children.

Even though many schools have shifted to remote learning amid the latest Covid lockdown, vulnerable children and those of key workers have still been allowed to go in.

It comes as weather forecasters predict snow could keep falling into the evening, causing treacherous conditions on the roads.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice for the whole county, which is set to last until 9pm on Thursday, January 14.

Schools in northern parts of Derbyshire, such as Chesterfield, have already said they will not be staying open as the weather worsens.

Cutthorpe Primary School in the town has asked parents to collect their children “urgently” as it is closing due to “poor weather and road condition”.

Meanwhile, Hunloke Park Primary School in Wingerworth has said it will close this afternoon.

In a statement it said: “Unfortunately, due to the worsening weather situation and health and safety concerns in the immediate area, we have decided to close school from 1.00pm.

“We will monitor the situation regarding opening tomorrow and updates will be posted on Parenthub.”

The full list of closures is as follows:

  • Cutthorpe Primary School, Chesterfield
  • Hunloke Park Primary School, Wingerworth
  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Primary School, Spinkhill
  • Padfield Community Primary School, Padfield, Glossop
  • Park House Primary School, Lower Pilsley, Chesterfield
  • St Giles CofE Primary School, Killamarsh

This article will be updated as we get more information about school closures.
