Derbyshire roads closed as heavy snow falls around the county

A number of roads in Derbyshire are closed today due to heavy snowfall in some parts of the county.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice from the Met Office was in place from 8am this morning until around 4pm this afternoon.

It has now been replaced by a new ice warning covering Thursday night, which will remain in place until 10am tomorrow morning.

A substantial amount of snow has fallen in northern areas of the county today, including Buxton, Bakewell and Chesterfield.

As a result of today’s snowfall, several roads across the county have become impassable, with a number of road closures now in place.

Derbyshire County Council says the following roads have closed due to the snow, as of 1pm this afternoon:

  • A57 Snake Pass
  • A6024 Holme Moss
  • Rushup Edge
  • Winnats Pass

Update: As of 7pm this evening, the four roads above have now reopened and are passable with care.

This article will be updated as we get more information about road closures.
