Car clampers looking for untaxed vehicles find rich pickings in Leicester neighbourhood

Wheelclampers have been out hunting down untaxed vehicles in a Leicester neighbourhood this week – and they have had a field day.

The private company NSL Services is authorised by the DVLA to find cars whose owners are behind with their tax payments.

Its team clamped at least eight vehicles in the Westcotes area this week, it has told LeicestershireLive.

The company removes the clamps if the owed taxes are paid.

However, if the outstanding sum is not paid they are empowered to tow the vehicles away. Ultimately, some confiscated vehicles can be sold at auction.

NSL said its operation in Leicester was just part of the ongoing job of hunting for tax-dodgers.

A spokesperson for the company said: “NSL is DVLA’s national wheel clamping partner.

“As part of day-to-day enforcement activity, NSL takes enforcement action against untaxed vehicles seen on the road in different areas of the country.

“I can confirm that the enforcement action taken in Leicester was part of this day-to-day activity.”

Drivers must tax their vehicles even if they are not required to pay anything because of the model or if they are exempted from paying because they are disabled or other factors.
