A woodland trail has closed its gates to the public today as high winds are forecast for Leicestershire.
The Outwoods near Loughborough shut from 1pm as high winds are expected to pick up across the county.
Charnwood Borough Council warned the public in a post on Twitter, that high winds can risk injury as parts of trees can fall over the public footpaths.
According to the Met Office, the weather in the county should remain dry but gusty winds are expected throughout the day and into tonight.
Due to potentially hung-up trees over footpaths, a safety inspection will take place after the wind has died down before it can be visited again.
The hiking trail will remain closed until an inspection is carried out but Charnwood Borough Council said in a Tweet that “hopefully is should reopen tomorrow”.
The Outwoods has been a popular green space for families during the lockdown. It was recently announced that the former ranger’s cottage would become a new visitor centre and cafe.
It is hoped that the new centre will be completed by the end of this summer. Read more about the new plans here.
